Impact of Soil Aeration on the Environmental Fate of Pre-Emergent Herbicide Metolachlor

The impact of the aeration status soils on environmental fate soil-applied pre-emergent herbicide metolachlor is significance to sustainable agriculture practices and has not been investigated thoroughly by existing research works. To address this knowledge gap, we examined adsorption, desorption, degradation, mineralization radioactively labeled [14C] in Catlin, Flanagan, Drummer under aerobic anaerobic conditions. Based our findings, conditions soil significantly reduced adsorption 14C-metolachlor while also promoting its thereby potentially releasing a greater amount from after field application. first-order degradation kinetics were distinctively enhanced all tested. Furthermore, rates non-sterilized versus sterilized microcosms clearly indicated microbial activity soil. results study suggest that redox could bioavailability should be taken into consideration as part weed management programs.
